Chiangmai – Masjid/Mosque and Halal Food
I’ve ever reached Chiangmai by bus and train and none of the stations have honglamard (musholla). But if you visit this city and give yourself a good mobility by renting a motorbike, masjid and halal food are not issues at all. They are not in the old city (the square one surrounded by canal), but not so far from city crowd. As far as my limited time has taught me, there is a big mosque called Masjid Hidayatul Islam Banhaw (I sense a Chinese nuance in the last word).
Khun Abdullah and Khun Yakub, Muslims I met in Chiangmai, told me that this mosque is built by Chinese Muslim (Yunnan descendants) community. It was Interesting to know more actually, but I got no time luxury and not enough thai vocabularies to chat with them. Halal food shops are just next to the mosque and else, in the touristic Anusarn market just 200 meters from the mosque. There in the market, you have a good selection of halal Thai, Arab, Indian, and Chinese food. Followings are the pictures and map (you can click the image to enlarge).
